Eddie’s Musical Lounge opens.
1947
Operated by Israel (Eddie) Levine, it is located on the site formerly occupied by the Green Door at 425 Massachusetts Avenue. The first featured singer is Pat Rainey, who is described as “Boston’s answer to Lena Horne.” The club also features calypso music, including a group led by Eugene Walcott, known as the Charmer in 1953-1954. The club closes for a time in 1958, reopens as the Wigwam in 1959, and closes in 1962.
